The Image is Mightier than the Sword...

"There is a civil contract implied by photographs. An Israeli writer, Ariella Azoulay, published a book making that point. Henri Cartier-Bresson made it too. He described shooting pictures of people as a “sort of violation,” adding, “if sensitivity is lacking, there can be something barbaric about it.” There can be, of course, and not just when the subject doesn’t like the image." --MICHAEL KIMMELMAN, New York Times, June 3, 2009

I will urge everyone who is as appalled as I was (and am) by this tasteless advertisement for an Australian restaurant in Copenhagen to call the restaurant and express your complaint.

Hi there,

Do you have links to more info about this in English? Thanks!
It's an ad for Reef N' Beef here in Copenhagen. I saw this image months ago in the metro, took it and was not quite sure what to do with it. And then I read this quote...it's cool Ulla that you feel this way about it and that you, Delux are interested.

Tasteless it is. Wow. I'm not sure which is more disgusting: the ad agency that came up with this particular campaign, or the thought of Australian cuisine!

With all the dramavre: Malia Obama being called 'ghetto' for wearing her hair in twists and dressing casually, I'm thinking a lot about how imagery about how POC are portrayed.
@as usual: well said!
@Delux...it certainly is worth thinking about in our everyday lives.
thanks for reading...
