I've been following your blog for 2-3 years now, always inspired by your courage to move to a totally different country. It's been said that women of color are not adventurous, don't take risks, etc. but you are one of those women who disprove that myth. You're probably asking yourself if you did the right thing by leaving NYC, because maybe you're now ready to pick up and move again! I can relate. Sometimes letting grass grow under your feet is a great thing and sometimes it's not if you feel a place has given you all that it can (and you've done all that you can there).

I've lived in four different states and I don't regret any of my moves, I'd rather be someone who's seen more in life than someone who stayed put out of fear.

Best wishes no matter what you do!

I was strangely moved by your reading yesterday. Your voice has been with me all day and so has the atmosphere that you created. There's something about the combination of the writing and your voice that really works. Puha. That piece about you father. Sometimes I'm not sure Im cut out for this world.

Let's hope words can make a difference. Let's hope it changes something for someone. Your words already have for me.

You are an inspiration. Really, I'm not being cheesy, I really appreciate your work and your outlook. I don't know if you've ever read Celestine Prophecy, but part of the book is about relationships. Why we have them, what they're about, what you give or take from them. That there is a purpose and a meaning in everything that we do, and everyone we encounter. Honestly, I believed it when I read it because I feel that I've been aware of it all of my life. But today, I have to tell you that I've been reminded of why things are the way they are, and why things just fall into place. Thank you for giving me your time and devoting a few minutes to remind me of this....twice today.

I have to say, you gave me chicken skin. Your words are great, and your writing is evolving into pieces that I have to pass on and share with others I love.

Thank you for being part of my life, for including me in yours, and inspiring me to continue the journey!

Hi Lilli; My intention was to write to you first thing this morning but I came down here and was immediately distracted by my messy desk. Knowing tomorrow is Monday I just could not face the chaos first thing in the week. Then I went upstairs ...cooked...one must do that when one has little or no money...and the food that is to be cooked requires preparation....but that is always therapeutic for me...and so after finishing that little chore I returned here only to be distracted by emails and the Internet but now I am writing to tell you .. (again), yes YOU are such a BRILLIANT WRITER. What is interesting is that you have mastered the form for both fiction and non-fiction. It is quite amazing how you can tell the same story and each be effective in its' form.It could be a bestseller ...go AHEAD and do it! Love you. mdb

Hey, Lesley-Ann, I went to your blog and was somehow transported to your October 2007 blog, titled Brother, Are You Dying? It is such a powerful post. I had a brother who made some mistakes as a teenager that never left him. I also used to love Sister Nancy, and had a membership to Paradise Garage, where I danced every weekend into the morning hours for a long time.
