Acting Out
Last night, after a day of fine weather, the heavens brewed and eventually burst. With a spectacular lightning show accompanied by thunderous drum rolls, I cycled home in the rain and allowed myself to be baptized by the elements.
I cycled along the lakes after a brief meeting with my, well, I guess you can call her business partner because she and I are not only in the midst of putting a show together in May, but from the sound of it, there will be many more events to spring from this partnership.
Life is good. Busy but good. Saturday I threw a "Happy Spring" party in honor of someone who has recently gotten engaged to a Dane, so that she could meet some cool people. The party ended up having a lot of New Yorkers, and can I just say that my wooden floor was shaking? I kid you not. Folks were doing the electric slide, the hustle, old school hip hop was blasting from my blown-out speakers and I think I may have even burst out with the wop--but ANYWAY, it was a really good party. A Danish guy said to me, "I've never been to a party and seen people dance like that!" It was a real New York City party, what can I say? Wonderful and thanks for all the folks who blessed me with their presence.
The day after I had a shoot to do. Yes, shoot, as in film shoot. Someone needed someone to do some acting in front of the camera and I came up and well: It was fun. I spent the whole day acting like a crazy person and besides being emotionally exhausted by the end of the day I came out with the much-needed conviction that you know what? I am NOT crazy!
I'm putting together a show right now, well actually, I have two back to back and I am really looking forward to it. One of them, on the 15th of May will be for a Caribbean Night where there will be a viewing of Charlotte Troldahl's film on the Calabash Literary Festival in Jamaica put together by Colin Channer. I know Colin from back in the day, before he got his first book deal and it's good to see that he uses his time in this way.
So far I think I have an amazing drummer to back me up on that evening, Deadato Siquir--so cross your fingers for a fantastic, cultural evening.
So, so far so good. I'm out now, and will continue to walk the walk I encourage all others to walk.

P.S.
The Director just called and she said she's been going through all the footage and that I nailed it! Yeah! :-)

I thought you might be interested in another documentary out there Neo African Americans. It is about American immigrants to of African (black) decent and how they view themselves. I was able to meet the creator Kobina which made me have a whole new respect for the work he did. You can check out the trailer here http://neoafricanamericans.blogspot.com/
Take care out there, in the Big Wide World, although when you think about it, it's pretty small, isn't it? :-)
